Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is thrilled with the arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai, describing him as both the “present” and “future” of the club. The Hungarian midfielder joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for a hefty fee of £60.2 million, becoming the team’s second signing of the summer transfer window. Szoboszlai signed a five-year contract with the club, securing his place until 2028, and was assigned the coveted number eight shirt previously worn by legendary player Steven Gerrard.
Klopp expressed his gratitude towards the club’s management for orchestrating the high-profile transfer. He warmly welcomed Szoboszlai to Liverpool, emphasizing the mutual excitement surrounding his arrival. The manager acknowledged the young midfielder’s impressive footballing background, having played for renowned clubs and experienced various leagues. Klopp highlighted the responsibility of nurturing Szoboszlai’s talent within the Liverpool family, building on the strong foundation he has already received.
Despite Szoboszlai’s previous exposure to the Anfield atmosphere during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, Klopp stressed that there is no pressure on the 22-year-old to immediately adapt to the demanding Premier League.
The manager recalled their encounters with Salzburg in the Champions League, acknowledging Szoboszlai’s potential even as a teenager. Klopp praised the player’s growth since then, citing his successful stint at Leipzig, appearances for the Hungarian national team, and his early captaincy.
Klopp emphasized the need for patience, acknowledging that Szoboszlai is still a young player with significant room for development. The manager highlighted the positive qualities the midfielder brings to the team, without delving into specifics. He urged the fans to support Szoboszlai and create an environment conducive to his growth, expressing confidence in their understanding of the process.
Szoboszlai departs Leipzig after an impressive spell, contributing 20 goals and 22 assists in 91 appearances and securing consecutive DFB-Pokal titles in 2022 and 2023. With his arrival, Liverpool’s midfield undergoes further reinforcement following the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.
