Edwin van der Sar’s family has confirmed that he has returned to the Netherlands to undergo further treatment for his brain hemorrhage. The former goalkeeper, known for his stints at Manchester United, Fulham, and Juventus, was hospitalized while vacationing in Croatia earlier this month. Fortunately, his condition has stabilized, and it has been clarified that his life is no longer in immediate danger.
Currently, Van der Sar is back in his home country, where he is receiving intensive care. In a statement issued by his wife, Annemarie, it was revealed, “Edwin was repatriated from Croatia on Friday evening and is presently being cared for in the intensive care unit of a Dutch hospital. His situation remains unchanged: stable, not life-threatening, and he is able to communicate.”
Expressing their heartfelt appreciation, the Van der Sar family extended their gratitude to the “University Hospital of Split” for their exceptional care during the past week. While Van der Sar’s condition remains stable, he will undergo further investigations while in the intensive care unit. The family is earnestly hoping that he can subsequently concentrate on his recovery.
Fellow Dutch football legend Jaap Stam recently conveyed his well wishes to Van der Sar during an interview with MUTV. Stam remarked, “We all send our love to Edwin. We are well acquainted with him, and it is always shocking to hear about such incidents occurring to someone we know. Edwin has always been extremely athletic, and he maintains an active lifestyle. Hence, it is unexpected to see something like this happen to a former player and teammate.”
Stam further added, “We wish him all the love and extend our best wishes to him and his family. Our hope is for his complete recovery and continued safety.”
The return of Edwin van der Sar to his homeland for further medical attention underscores the seriousness of his condition. However, with his stable state and the care he is receiving, there is optimism that he will overcome this health setback. The football community, along with his family and friends, eagerly awaits his recovery and sends him their support and well wishes during this challenging time.
