Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in this summer’s transfer market, attracting attention from top European clubs after his standout performances for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup.
The 26-year-old has reportedly turned down interest from Liverpool and set his sights on joining Manchester United, igniting a heated race for his signature.
Amrabat’s stock rose even higher after Barcelona’s unsuccessful attempt to secure him on loan during the January transfer window.
The midfielder, who made 49 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions last season, played a key role in helping the team reach the finals of both the Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia.
With his current contract set to expire next June, it is widely expected that Amrabat will make a move this summer.
Fiorentina is said to have valued him at €30m (£25.9m) with bonuses, and Manchester United has already taken significant steps towards securing his services, according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.
Liverpool, who are in the market for midfield reinforcements following the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain, have also shown interest in Amrabat.
Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is another name on their radar, but the Moroccan midfielder is believed to be a top target for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Despite Liverpool’s admiration, Amrabat has made it clear that he prefers a move to Old Trafford and is reportedly aware of Manchester United’s interest.
Although the transfer is not imminent, the deal is expected to materialize once the Red Devils finalize their pursuit of Atalanta BC’s Rasmus Hojlund, who is their primary attacking target this summer.
Before completing the Amrabat deal, Manchester United may have to offload some players to free up funds and squad spaces.
Fred and Scott McTominay have been linked with moves away from the club, while Donny van de Beek’s departure is also anticipated.
So far, Manchester United’s summer signings have included Mason Mount and Andre Onana, with the latter set to debut in Wednesday’s pre-season fixture against Real Madrid.
