Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly made a €50m (£43m) offer to secure the services of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta BC.
The Danish international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, is in high demand in the transfer market.
According to sources, Manchester United had already made their initial bid last Wednesday. However, PSG has now entered the race with an equal offer of €50m (£42.8m) plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons for the 20-year-old forward.
Hojlund enjoyed an impressive 2022-23 season at Atalanta, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 34 appearances following his arrival from Sturm Graz.
This outstanding performance has attracted the attention of several top clubs, including PSG, who are in need of a new centre-forward this summer.
The Athletic reports that PSG’s bid of €50m (£43m) comes with the condition that the offer must be accepted.
Otherwise, the French champions are willing to walk away from the negotiations. However, it is unlikely that the bid will meet Atalanta’s expectation as they are thought to be holding out for €70m (£60m) plus bonuses for Hojlund’s transfer.
Despite PSG’s interest, Hojlund reportedly favors a move to Manchester United and has already reached an agreement with the Premier League giants over personal terms. This preference, combined with PSG’s reluctance to exceed their €50m (£43m) offer, makes a transfer to Paris highly unlikely at this stage.
Meanwhile, PSG has also placed Kylian Mbappe on the transfer list, aiming to sell their star player this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
This further emphasizes the capital giants’ need to secure a suitable replacement, with Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic also being strongly linked with a move to PSG.
Atalanta, although resigned to losing Hojlund this summer, remains determined to hold out for the highest possible price for a player who still has four years left on his current contract. The club acknowledges Hojlund’s exceptional potential and aims to maximize their return on investment.
Hojlund has also made a significant impact at the international level, scoring six goals in his first six appearances for Denmark.
His remarkable performances include a hat-trick against Finland and a brace against Kazakhstan during the national side’s European Championship qualification campaign. These achievements further enhance his reputation and generate additional interest from potential suitors.
