In a surprising twist, Chelsea is now positioned to potentially thwart Kylian Mbappe’s potential transfer to Liverpool, as per an astonishing report that has emerged.
Initially, it was reported that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was in discussions with Liverpool for a loan deal involving the superstar Mbappe.
However, the landscape has dramatically changed, with Chelsea entering the fray armed with a tempting player-plus-cash offer.
According to The Daily Record, PSG has categorized Mbappe in a group of players known as the “loft” players, which includes notable names like Georginio Wijnaldum and Julian Draxler, and are looking to offload him.
The French club decided to put Mbappe on their for-sale list after he publicly declared his refusal to sign a new contract with them.
Following an astonishing world-record bid of £259 million from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, PSG reportedly “encouraged” Todd Boehly’s outfit to make an offer for Mbappe.
Nevertheless, even with a staggering wage package worth £603 million per year on the table, the Frenchman declined to discuss a contract with PSG, thus keeping his options open for a potential move.
While the report doesn’t explicitly reveal Chelsea’s specific proposal, it is known that Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, is eager to trim down the squad size. Chelsea would consider player plus cash deal in that case.
Interestingly, Mbappe’s journey in football had once brought him to Chelsea when he was just 10 years old. However, the Blues decided not to sign him after he failed to score during an 8-0 victory against Charlton during his trial.
Reflecting on that experience during his PSG unveiling, Mbappe expressed fond memories of his visit to Chelsea, considering it a “real discovery.”
It was then that he nurtured the dream of becoming one of the great players who can bring joy to the spectators through the beautiful game. Now, years later, Mbappe stands on the precipice of realizing that objective.
Nonetheless, it’s essential to note that Liverpool has its own history with the Frenchman. Mbappe had previously spoken about his admiration for the club and had even engaged in discussions with Liverpool before eventually moving to PSG.
Interestingly, his agent and mother, Fayza Lamari, is a Liverpool supporter, which adds a unique angle to the potential transfer saga.
Despite the interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, Real Madrid remains a prominent favorite to secure Mbappe’s services in the long run.
As the transfer market continues to evolve, Chelsea has already secured deals for two other Ligue 1 stars, Axel Disasi and Lesley Ugochukwu, with fees of £38 million and £23.5 million, respectively.
