Leicester City showed their mettle in an intense Championship opener, rallying from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Coventry City at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes, led by new head coach Enzo Maresca, demonstrated resilience and attacking prowess to clinch an impressive three points.
In an encounter that had fans on the edge of their seats, Coventry’s Kyle McFadzean struck first, breaking the deadlock shortly after halftime. However, Leicester quickly turned the tide with two brilliantly executed goals by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Despite dominating the first half, Leicester’s attempts lacked precision, with shots from distance and half-chances failing to materialize into goals. Callum Doyle, a former Coventry player, was denied at the back post from a set piece, exemplifying the visitors’ resilience.
Coventry had their moments as well, with Kasey Palmer’s long-range effort narrowly missing the target. Yet, the Sky Blues squandered opportunities to capitalize on their counterattacks, allowing the Foxes to stay in the game.
After McFadzean’s header from a corner gave Coventry the lead, they continued to press forward with menace. Ellis Simms tested Leicester’s goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, with a low shot that was smartly saved. Hermansen denied Matt Godden’s attempt at the near post, showcasing his shot-stopping skills.
However, it was Dewsbury-Hall who stole the show for Leicester. His equalizer, courtesy of a perfectly timed header from Dennis Praet’s cross, rejuvenated the home side. The midfielder’s second goal was even more spectacular—a well-placed shot from inside the box that found the top corner of Ben Wilson’s net.
The moments leading up to Dewsbury-Hall’s heroics saw Coventry’s Haji Wright unleash a fierce shot, only to be thwarted by Hermansen’s acrobatics, the ball hitting the underside of the crossbar before going wide.
Despite a nail-biting nine minutes of added time, Coventry failed to create a final opportunity, resulting in Mark Robins’s side suffering a defeat that felt harsh considering the chances they generated.
