In a surprising turn of events, Steven Gerrard, the former Liverpool legend and now manager of Al-Ettifaq, addressed the recent speculations surrounding Mo Salah’s potential departure.
While talking about his favorite player, Gerrard unintentionally brought up another Liverpool star, Jordan Henderson.
Gerrard, 43, made his move to the Saudi Arabian club last month, after turning down previous offers. Among his initial tasks was securing a deal for Liverpool captain Henderson, 33, to join him at Al-Ettifaq.
On Monday, rumors surfaced about Al-Ittihad, another Saudi club, preparing a staggering £60 million offer for Salah, 31. Reports further suggested they were willing to pay an astonishing £155 million in wages over a two-year contract.
When questioned about his interest in Salah, Gerrard initially responded with laughter. After regaining composure, he expressed his admiration for the Egyptian forward and his love for Liverpool Football Club, asserting that Salah should remain where he is. However, Gerrard playfully added that if Salah continues to bring success to Liverpool, a future consideration might be possible.
Responding to these transfer rumors, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, took to Twitter to clarify matters. Abbas stated that if Salah had any intentions of leaving Liverpool this year, he would not have renewed his contract just last summer. The agent emphasized Salah’s commitment to the club.
Salah himself, currently earning £400,000 per week, signed a fresh contract a year ago, securing his stay at Anfield until 2025.
On the other hand, Henderson is reportedly earning an impressive £700,000 per week at Al-Ettifaq, where he joined Gerrard’s project after Al-Ettifaq finished 11th in the Saudi Pro League last season.
