Manchester United fans are preparing to voice their dissent over the potential return of Mason Greenwood ahead of the team’s inaugural home game in the Premier League against Wolverhampton on Monday. The supporters are determined to convey their concerns during this crucial fixture.
According to one of the organizers affiliated with the group, who spoke to The Athletic, it is time for the club to make the right decision.
They emphasized that Manchester United has always upheld high standards regarding player conduct. If those standards are not met, necessary measures should be taken. This particular situation is seen as a turning point for the club.
Moreover, the protest is being viewed as a test of whether the team management will prioritize “commercialism, trophies, and money” or stand in solidarity with their fans.
Demonstrators have created a prominent banner adorned in distinctive United colors, featuring the messages “Female fans demand no Greenwood return” and “End violence against women.”
The 21-year-old striker has been rumored to make a comeback to the team after earlier charges of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault against him were dropped earlier this year.
However, he has been suspended from playing for Manchester United since his arrest in January last year.
Although the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew the case in February due to “key witnesses” retracting their statements and “new material coming to light,” the club has conducted its own internal investigation, leading to his ongoing suspension.
Last week, Greenwood was spotted training in a park while his father, Andrew, watched on, cradling his newborn baby girl.
In an exclusive report, Sports Weez disclosed that discussions at the highest level regarding Greenwood’s potential return to Old Trafford are nearing completion.
Additionally, he has received support from his teammates and manager Erik ten Hag. However, his hopes suffered a setback as he was excluded from the provisional squad list last night.
Protesting fans strongly believe that a comeback for Greenwood would be an intolerable affront. A female member of the group expressed her thoughts, revealing that female fans have often felt marginalized and not taken as seriously as others.
She stated that this issue feels like an attack on all of them and emphasized that many fans would reassess their relationship with the club if Greenwood were to return.
