Paris Saint-Germain have finalized the acquisition of Ousmane Dembele, bolstering their attacking lineup with the talented player from Barcelona.
The 26-year-old forward has officially joined the French giants in a significant deal estimated to be worth around €50m (£43.2m). He has signed a lucrative five-year contract, ensuring his presence at the Parc des Princes until 2028.
Dembele’s transfer marks the end of his injury-affected stint at Camp Nou, where he endured limited playing time, featuring in only 185 appearances across all competitions during his six-year tenure. Last season, the French international made 35 appearances, finding the net eight times, bringing his total goals for Barcelona to 40 in all competitions.
Expressing his excitement, Dembele shared, “I’m delighted to be joining Paris Saint-Germain and can’t wait to play for my new club. I hope I can continue to grow here and make all the club’s fans proud.”
The highly-anticipated signing has been praised by PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who stated, “We are delighted to welcome Ousmane Dembele to Paris Saint-Germain, where he will be an important and committed player for our club.
The move marks Dembele’s return to Ligue 1 after his impressive 2015-2016 campaign with Rennes, where he netted 12 goals in 29 games as a burgeoning talent. Following his time at Rennes, he joined Borussia Dortmund before making a record-breaking transfer to Barcelona in the 2017-2018 season, becoming the second-most expensive player at the time, replacing Neymar.
During his tenure in Spain, Dembele secured three La Liga titles and two Copas del Rey. Additionally, he was a pivotal part of the French national team that clinched the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and reached the final in Qatar four years later.
As Paris Saint-Germain commences their new Ligue 1 campaign with a match against Lorient this evening, fans eagerly anticipate Dembele’s potential debut when the team faces Toulouse next weekend.
