Manchester City’s talented midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, has unfortunately been left out of the squad for the upcoming UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla.
This setback comes as a result of the midfielder suffering a recurring hamstring injury during the opening league game of the season. The incident occurred in City’s victorious 3-0 triumph over Burnley, forcing De Bruyne to exit the pitch in the 36th minute.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, confirmed that it was indeed the same hamstring injury De Bruyne had previously encountered during the Champions League final in June.
Speaking after the match against Burnley, Guardiola expressed uncertainty regarding the duration of De Bruyne’s absence, stating, “It’s the hamstring again, same position. I don’t know (how long he will be out), it depends on the magnitude of the injury, but it will be a few weeks.”
Looking ahead to the UEFA Super Cup game, Guardiola assembled a 22-man squad for the important fixture set to take place in Athens on Wednesday.
As a prestigious competition contested between the winners of the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League, the absence of De Bruyne will undoubtedly have an impact on Manchester City’s strategies.
