Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has put an end to speculations surrounding his departure from Anfield amidst reports linking him to a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
During his time at Anfield, the Brazilian international has earned a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, securing six major titles over the past five years.
Alisson played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League triumphs, and he recently extended his contract until 2027, solidifying his commitment to the club.
Speculation arose when French outlet Foot Mercato suggested that Alisson was being targeted by Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s team in Saudi Arabia, where he could reunite with former teammate Sadio Mane.
It was rumored that the 30-year-old might be enticed by the allure of the Saudi revolution, which has already attracted Liverpool midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho with their financial offerings.
However, according to Anfield Watch, Alisson is content with life on Merseyside and has no intention of leaving the club in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, there have been no official approaches from any Saudi Pro League teams.
Since joining Liverpool from Roma, Alisson has held the undisputed position of Jurgen Klopp’s number one goalkeeper for the past five years and has settled comfortably in Liverpool with his family.
With 232 appearances for Liverpool, Alisson boasts an impressive record of 103 clean sheets. He has also been awarded the Premier League Golden Glove twice in addition to his collection of team trophies.
In the previous season, the South American goalkeeper managed to keep 14 clean sheets in 37 Premier League matches. However, he conceded 43 goals, which is his highest tally in a single top-flight campaign for Liverpool.
Despite Liverpool’s disappointing campaign resulting in a drop to the Europa League, Alisson’s performances have received widespread praise, solidifying his position as Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher has served as Alisson’s understudy in recent years, and there were rumors of him seeking regular playing time away from Anfield earlier this summer.
Both Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in acquiring Kelleher’s services. However, Klopp dismissed any talks of an exit and stated that only an “extraordinary offer” would be considered by the club.
Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Saturday will potentially see new signing Wataru Endo make his debut for the Reds.
Endo, who joined from Stuttgart on a four-year deal, strengthens Liverpool’s midfield amidst the absence of injured players Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara, and Curtis Jones, with the latter expected to miss the match due to an ankle issue.
