In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta revealed that Bukayo Saka picked up an injury during their UEFA Champions League defeat to Lens.
The injury occurred while Saka attempted a backheel. The wide forward was already a doubt for the game due to his injury during their Bournemouth match on the weekend, but still started the game on Tuesday evening.
Despite getting an assist for Gabriel Jesus’ goal, Saka was forced to leave the game in the 35th minute due to the hamstring injury, which he sustained while walking off the pitch.
The timing of Saka’s injury could not have been worse for Arsenal as they are set to face Manchester City in their upcoming Premier League match on Sunday.
The Gunners are hopeful that Saka will recover in time for the match at the Emirates Stadium, but Arteta did not confirm the severity of the injury.
During the interview, Arteta also praised Lens for their exceptional performance and admitted that his team did not defend well enough during the game.
The Gunners took the lead early in the game but were later pegged back by an impressive Adrien Thomasson goal.
They ultimately lost the match 2-1 thanks to a stunning first-time strike from Elye Wahi in the second half.
Arsenal missed Saka’s creative spark after he left the pitch, and the defeat highlighted the importance of having him in their team.
The Gunners will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Saka, who has been an important player for them recently.
