According to reports, Chelsea are considering a swap deal that would see Romelu Lukaku return to the club in exchange for Roma’s Tammy Abraham.
The English forward is currently recovering from an ACL injury suffered during pre-season, but Chelsea are desperate for attacking options after a poor start to the season.
With just five goals scored in their first six games, the Blues find themselves all the way down in 14th place in the Premier League table.
Lukaku remains on Chelsea’s books but is currently out on loan at Roma. The Italian club has been impressed with the Belgian striker’s performances so far, and is keen to make his loan move permanent.
It is believed that both Lukaku and Abraham are valued similarly at around £35-40m, which makes a straight exchange possible.
Chelsea are likely to enter the market for a striker in January, with Nicolas Jackson their only current option.
Christopher Nkunku is still out injured, leaving the Blues short on attacking options.
Given Lukaku’s strong performances for Roma, it is not surprising that he has attracted interest from other clubs.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will go through with the exchange deal, but it certainly seems like a possibility they are considering.
