New reports suggest that Ange Postecoglou, the recently appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has made a positive impression on star striker Harry Kane. Kane, who has been at the center of transfer speculation this summer, had an outstanding season last year, scoring 30 Premier League goals, only surpassed by Erling Haaland of Manchester City.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, there is a possibility that Kane might leave the club, which would undoubtedly disappoint the passionate Tottenham fans. Since his debut in June 2013, Kane has become a legend at the club, scoring an impressive 279 goals in 428 appearances.
According to a report from Football.London, Postecoglou has already impressed Kane during their early interactions. The England striker returned to training on Wednesday morning and it seems that the initial talks between him and the new manager were positive. Postecoglou, an Australian, is keen on building a squad that can challenge for a top-four spot next season.
Tottenham had a difficult end to the previous season, finishing eighth in the Premier League after the departure of former manager Antonio Conte. This meant they missed out on European football for the upcoming season.
Contrary to rumors, the report states that the discussions between Postecoglou and Kane were not about a potential transfer. They were simply introductory conversations as the 57-year-old manager settles into his new role at the club.
Several top clubs are interested in acquiring Kane’s services this summer, including Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions. It was reported that Bayern Munich submitted a formal bid of around £68.4m for Kane, but this offer was promptly rejected by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Nevertheless, it appears that Bayern Munich is determined to pursue Kane further. Rumors suggest that they are willing to sell seven first-team players to raise funds for the English striker’s transfer.
Manchester United is another club known to be admirers of Kane. However, their limited transfer budget has led them to prioritize a less expensive move for Atalanta BC’s Rasmus Hojlund.
Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions, are also reportedly interested in Kane and are willing to make a significant financial offer to entice him to Parc des Princes. Despite PSG’s strong interest, Kane is said to be hesitant about a potential move to Ligue 1.
Kane and his teammates at Tottenham will kick off their pre-season schedule with a London derby against West Ham United on July 18. This will be followed by matches against Leicester City, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Barcelona before their league opener against Brentford on August 13.
