Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reiterated his faith in forward Mohamed Salah, confirming that the Egyptian remains “100%” committed to the club amid speculation of a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
Despite signing a contract extension until 2025 last year, rumors surrounding Salah’s future have resurfaced, with reports suggesting that Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad are keen on securing his services and making him the world’s highest-paid player.
However, Klopp firmly dismissed these claims, stating that any offers for the 31-year-old would be swiftly rejected. Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has also consistently denied any possibility of his client leaving Liverpool.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United, Klopp reassured fans, saying, “If there was something coming up, which I don’t think [there is] or don’t know, then we can think about it. But I said already, if there was something, it would be a no.”
Klopp’s unwavering support for Salah comes despite the winger expressing frustration when he was substituted in the Reds’ Premier League opener against Chelsea. However, Klopp emphasized that Salah’s commitment to the team remains steadfast, asserting, “100%.
Salah proved his worth by retaining his place in the starting lineup for Liverpool’s victory over Bournemouth, contributing a goal alongside Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in a remarkable 3-1 comeback win.
While there were injury concerns following the game, Klopp provided updates on the team’s fitness. Trent Alexander-Arnold has recovered from a minor concern and will be available for the upcoming match. However, Curtis Jones and Thiago Alcantara will continue to be sidelined due to ankle and hip injuries.
Another worry for Liverpool is the potential absence of Ibrahima Konate, who is a doubt for the showdown with Eddie Howe’s side. Klopp acknowledged that playing with ten men for 40 minutes against Bournemouth took its toll but expressed hope that most of the squad will be available for selection.
In a recent development, Liverpool’s appeal against Alexis Mac Allister’s red card has been successful. Klopp expressed relief and pointed out that the tackle was not deserving of a straight red card. The decision allows Mac Allister to continue playing without serving a suspension.
This incident led to Wataru Endo making his Liverpool debut shortly after joining from Stuttgart. With the possibility of Ibrahima Konate’s absence, Endo could potentially make his full Premier League debut at St James’ Park.
