Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has not yet shared with his team that he plans to leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.
The French star’s contract with PSG ends on June 30, and Le Parisien reported on Saturday that he had chosen to switch to Los Blancos in the coming months.
Mbappe is said to be moving to Bernabeu without a transfer fee, and the 25-year-old might reveal his decision within the next few weeks.
However, Sky Sports News states that the ex-Monaco player hasn’t informed PSG of his intention to depart after the season for Spain.
The report notes that Mbappe intends to tell PSG first about his future, but the club is still in the dark about his choice.
ESPN mentions that neither PSG nor Real Madrid know of Mbappe’s decision yet, but he could announce a move to the 14-time European champions possibly next week.
The report suggests that Mbappe might have to take a 50% cut in salary to join Real Madrid, as the Spanish team can’t offer him what PSG does in terms of pay.
His expected move from Paris is not for money, as he would be giving up about €100m (£85.5m) in bonuses, aiming for a new challenge rather than financial gain.
PSG is reportedly looking at AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as a possible replacement for Mbappe in this summer’s transfer period.
Mbappe has shown excellent performance for Luis Enrique’s squad in the 2023-24 season, with 29 goals and seven assists in 28 games across all contests.
Since joining PSG from Monaco, he has played 288 games, scored 241 goals and provided 105 assists.
The striker has secured five Ligue 1 titles with PSG and is pursuing a sixth this season, along with helping the team aim for a Champions League victory.
PSG will face Real Sociedad in the Champions League last-16 round and are also in the Coupe de France’s last-16.
Real Madrid has already clinched the Spanish Super Cup this year and is competing for La Liga and the Champions League titles.
