Lazio has set their sights on bringing back a familiar face to Italy, none other than Galatasaray’s midfielder, Lucas Torreira. The team’s coach, Maurizio Sarri, has made it abundantly clear that he wants the Uruguayan player in the heart of their midfield, expressing his preference during a recent club meeting.
According to reputable Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, Sarri, who has previously managed top Italian clubs like Napoli, Chelsea, and Juventus, has urged Lazio president Claudio Lotito to make every effort to secure Torreira’s services and bring the tenacious midfielder to Rome.
At 27 years old, Torreira is considered one of Sarri’s top choices to excel in his signature three-man midfield setup. The club is eager to bolster their squad depth to compete on multiple fronts successfully.
While there were initial reports linking Paris Saint-Germain’s Leandro Paredes to Lazio, the Argentine’s exorbitant salary renders it nearly impossible for the Biancocelesti to pursue him. However, Paredes may still play a part in this story.
Galatasaray is keen on acquiring him to make a statement ahead of the upcoming Champions League campaign. In such a scenario, convincing the Turkish club to release Torreira would become significantly more feasible.
To secure Torreira’s return, Lazio would have to invest between $15 million and $20 million in signing the former Arsenal and Fiorentina player. It is believed that Torreira himself is enthusiastic about the prospect of returning to Serie A, as his agent, Pablo Bentancur, revealed to Turkish media. While Torreira currently finds contentment in Istanbul, the allure of Italian football is undeniable. The door is open for a potential move, especially when they say that all roads lead to Rome.
