Manchester City, the reigning treble champions, have secured the services of Dutch defender Nathan Ake for an additional two years, extending his contract until the end of the 2026-27 season.
The 28-year-old showcased his versatility and skills during the triumphant 2022-23 campaign, contributing three crucial goals in 41 matches across various positions, including full-back and centre-back.
Ake’s previous contract was set to expire in 2025, but he expressed his enthusiasm for the extension, stating that Manchester City is “the best club in the world.”
The Netherlands international attributed his continuous development to the club’s pursuit of excellence in all aspects, providing him with the perfect environment to improve as a player.
Highly appreciative of manager Pep Guardiola’s mentorship, Ake considers him the best in the business, with a profound impact on his understanding of the game. The defender lauded Guardiola’s genius and acknowledged the privilege of working with him.
Ake’s sentiments were echoed by Director of Football Txiki Begiristain, who praised his contributions to the team’s success and expressed optimism about his future growth.
Since joining Manchester City from Bournemouth in 2020 for a fee of £38.9 million, Nathan Ake has amassed an impressive record of seven goals from 81 appearances in the Citizens’ jersey.
His commitment marks another positive development for the club, as he becomes the fourth player to sign a contract extension in the past 12 months, joining the ranks of Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Scott Carson.
Manchester City is currently wrapping up their pre-season preparations with a match against Atletico Madrid in South Korea on Sunday, leading up to the Community Shield clash against Arsenal on August 6.
