In a shocking result, Manchester City suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at home against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The loss has raised serious questions about City’s form and their ability to defend their Premier League title.

The absence of midfielder Rodri, who was parading the Ballon d’Or before kick-off, was clearly felt as Tottenham’s midfield dominated the game.

James Maddison scored twice in the opening 15 minutes, exploiting the gaps in City’s defence.

Tottenham’s third goal, scored by Pedro Porro, further highlighted City’s vulnerability, with Dejan Kulusevski powering through a weak challenge before setting up the finish.

The fourth goal, scored by Brennan Johnson, condemned City to their heaviest home defeat under manager Pep Guardiola.

“This is more than just Rodri,” said Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, as City’s issues extended beyond the absence of their defensive midfielder.

Injuries to Mateo Kovacic and the aging legs of Kyle Walker also contributed to Tottenham’s dominance.

The defeat has left City five points behind league leaders Liverpool, who could extend that gap further if they win against Southampton on Sunday.

Guardiola acknowledged the concerns, stating that the “blip has become a crisis” for his team.

City have conceded 17 goals in 12 games this season, the same number as 18th-placed Crystal Palace, highlighting their defensive frailties.

The lack of goals from supporting forwards, apart from the prolific Erling Haaland, has also been a concern.

With seven Premier League games to go before the January transfer window opens, Guardiola and his team face a crucial period to turn their fortunes around, starting with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool next Sunday.
