Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has put an end to the speculations surrounding the future of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay by confirming that both players will continue their journey at Old Trafford, extending beyond the transfer deadline.
The decision comes as a relief to fans who were concerned about the potential departures of these key players.
Throughout the summer, there were rumors swirling around Maguire’s uncertain position in the team, with other clubs expressing interest in the English defender.
West Ham United even had a £30m bid accepted for Maguire, only for negotiations to collapse later on.
Fortunately for Manchester United, an injury to Raphael Varane prompted them to retain Maguire as a vital asset in the center-back position.
Similarly, McTominay had also been linked with a move away from the club, with West Ham reportedly making an approach during the transfer window. Even Fulham expressed their interest in signing the talented Scottish midfielder.
However, Manchester United decided to keep hold of McTominay due to the demanding fixture schedule and the need for squad depth.
During a press conference, Ten Hag addressed the media’s queries, assuring them of the club’s decision.
“Considering the condensed schedule and the importance of having sufficient numbers and quality players, we believe both Maguire and McTominay are crucial assets in various situations. They are prepared to fight for the team,” said Ten Hag.
The upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal will see both Maguire and McTominay included in the squad, likely to start from the bench.
Manchester United’s new signing, Altay Bayindir, will also be available for selection, alongside Sergio Reguilon, who has trained with the team following his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur.
Ten Hag also revealed that Rasmus Hojlund, having recovered from a back issue, is set to make a starting appearance for the 20-time English champions.
However, the arrival of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina will not be completed in time for the Arsenal game, possibly delaying his debut until September 16 against Brighton & Hove Albion.
