West Ham United’s head coach, David Moyes, is reportedly eager to acquire Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay during this summer’s transfer window, according to recent reports. The 26-year-old’s future at Old Trafford has come under scrutiny, as the Red Devils are allegedly open to listening to offers for him in the current market.
Back in January, Newcastle United was linked with a move for McTominay, and it is believed that they are considering reigniting their interest in him this summer. Everton is also thought to be admirers of the midfielder.
Despite making 39 appearances for Manchester United last season, McTominay only started 10 times in the Premier League due to strong competition from players like Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, and Fred.
While McTominay recently expressed his contentment in Manchester, it is rumored that an offer of around £40 million could persuade the Red Devils to part ways with him during this transfer window. According to The Sun, David Moyes holds a high regard for McTominay and believes that the player possesses numerous qualities that would greatly benefit West Ham, particularly as they face the challenging task of replacing Declan Rice, who might be on his way to Arsenal.
Despite not being viewed as a direct replacement for Rice, Moyes sees McTominay as a valuable addition to the Hammers’ squad, especially considering their upcoming participation in the Europa League next season after their successful campaign in the Europa Conference League.
McTominay’s journey at Manchester United began in the youth system, progressing through various age groups before making his first-team debut in 2017. He has since made 209 appearances for the Red Devils, contributing 19 goals and five assists.
With two years remaining on his current contract, plus the option of an additional year, Manchester United holds a strong position in any potential transfer negotiations involving McTominay. Additionally, it is worth noting that Mason Mount is poised to join Manchester United from Chelsea, as the England international is scheduled to undergo a medical examination with the Red Devils on Monday.
Considering the increased competition for starting spots next season, McTominay could face difficulties securing regular playing time. This situation might lead him to explore new opportunities elsewhere in the current transfer market. Fred, another midfielder at Manchester United, finds himself in a similar position and has reportedly attracted interest from Italian giants Roma.
