Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations to secure the signing of Neymar, following the player’s transfer request at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to reports. The Brazilian superstar has garnered interest from multiple clubs this summer.
Throughout the summer, the Blues have been in contact with Neymar’s representatives, aiming to facilitate the transfer, as reported by RMC Sport. This development comes after Neymar supposedly expressed his desire to depart from PSG during the current transfer window.
Chelsea had been patiently waiting for Neymar to officially request a transfer, enabling them to expedite the deal promptly. Now, it seems that the anticipated scenario has materialized, albeit just days before their Premier League opener against Liverpool.
News has surfaced that Barcelona has ended their pursuit of Neymar, potentially paving the way for a possible move to Stamford Bridge. Although there were initial reports of Neymar longing for a return to Barcelona, RMC claims that he might be receptive to a switch to the English Premier League.
Interestingly, Chelsea was linked with a move for Neymar in 2022. However, the club opted to focus on other transfer targets at the time.
It is believed that PSG is seeking £59 million in exchange for the Brazilian international. This potential sale would alleviate the French giants’ wage bill, which currently bears Neymar’s £22 million annual salary.
Nevertheless, according to the report from France, Neymar will insist that any new club fully covers his existing salary, potentially posing a hurdle to a move to England.
While there were rumors of Manchester United’s interest in Neymar, manager Erik ten Hag remains committed to securing a holding midfielder, with Sofyan Amrabat being targeted for recruitment.
