Paris Saint-Germain may be ready to engage in a fierce battle with Manchester United to secure the services of Rasmus Hojlund, the talented forward from Atalanta BC, during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Last year, the 20-year-old made a move from Sturm Graz to Atalanta, where he had an impressive debut season in the Italian club. With 10 goals and four assists in 34 matches, Hojlund showcased his skills and caught the attention of several clubs.
Manchester United, led by coach Erik ten Hag, is reportedly determined to acquire the young forward in the summer market. They have identified him as their primary target to strengthen their attacking line.
Although the English champions have already made cash offers of £30m and £40m for the Danish international, their attempts have been unsuccessful thus far. Furthermore, a recent report revealed that Atalanta rejected a player-plus-cash offer from the Red Devils.
While there were previous speculations that Atalanta valued Hojlund at £85.4m, it is believed that a deal could potentially be struck for a sum lower than £60m.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Hojlund remains at the top of Manchester United’s attacking shortlist. The young striker is eager to join Old Trafford this summer. However, Romano also mentioned that PSG has expressed interest in Hojlund, as the French giants also admire the former Copenhagen player.
Before his time at Sturm Graz, Hojlund found success at Copenhagen, scoring five goals in 32 appearances. His outstanding performances earned him a move to the top flight of Italian football.
Atalanta holds a strong position when it comes to the future of their promising striker. With four years left on his contract, the club could benefit from a substantial offer from a European powerhouse.
Manchester United has been linked to other forwards such as Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur and Victor Osimhen from Napoli. However, these potential deals seem unlikely due to the significant financial investments required.
Desperate for reinforcements in the final third, Manchester United faces the end of Wout Weghorst’s loan spell at Burnley and the potential departure of Anthony Martial, who has struggled with fitness issues.
On the other hand, PSG is anticipated to sign at least one more forward this summer, especially after the departure of Lionel Messi from the club. PSG has been active in the current transfer market, securing the signings of Manuel Ugarte, Lucas Hernandez, Lee Kang-in, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, and Cher Ndour. In addition, they have permanently acquired Hugo Ekitike from Reims.
Hojlund, who has an impressive international record with six goals in six appearances for Denmark, had a productive season in Serie A. He scored nine goals in 32 league matches and contributed with four assists.
