Stade Rennais, the renowned Ligue 1 club, has made a significant addition to their squad by signing Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic. The news was confirmed by both Rennes and AS Roma on Monday. Matic has committed to a two-year contract with Rennes.
While no specific financial terms were disclosed, Italian media reports suggest that Rennes will pay approximately three million euros ($3.27 million) for the experienced 35-year-old player.
Matic’s previous spell with Jose Mourinho’s Roma side witnessed his impressive performances, having joined on a free transfer from Manchester United. During his time at Roma, Matic showcased his skills in 50 appearances, managing to score twice.
Expressing his excitement regarding the move, Matic stated, “The project proposed by Rennes delighted me right from our initial discussions. I am aware of the talented players within the squad, and I am eagerly looking forward to beginning this new chapter.”
