The veteran defender, Sergio Ramos, is reportedly exploring a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS) following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the close of the 2022-23 season.
Ramos, a prominent center-back, was a key part of PSG’s campaign, featuring in 33 Ligue 1 matches as the team secured another French league title. Despite their domestic success, PSG fell short in their pursuit of a coveted Champions League victory.
Having initially joined PSG from Real Madrid in 2021, Ramos played a total of 58 games for the club before his association came to an end in June, culminating a two-year tenure.
The departure of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami marked a notable shift in the club’s roster, hinting at the potential for more players to transition from Ligue 1 to the MLS.
Spanish news outlet MARCA has reported that Ramos is intrigued by the idea of joining MLS, although he is also weighing offers from other sources as he strategically maps out the next phase of his enduring career.
The report reveals that PSG extended a contract offer to Ramos in an attempt to retain his experience at Parc des Princes for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
However, the terms of the deal involved a substantial reduction in Ramos’s earnings compared to the previous season, making his decision to leave the Ligue 1 champions more straightforward.
While clubs in Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in recruiting Ramos for the upcoming Pro League season, it’s apparent that the player himself is leaning toward a move to the United States.
Notably, Inter Miami, led by former teammate Messi, stands as a potential destination. The team recently welcomed another Barcelona alumnus, Sergio Busquets.
The player’s situation has also attracted attention from Brazilian teams, although a move to South America seems unlikely given his career trajectory.
Among other prospects, Ramos could consider a return to La Liga with Sevilla before his retirement. This option, however, raises the question of whether he’d be willing to face his former team, Real Madrid, in a competitive setting.
