Ever since showcasing his talent during the 2022 World Cup for Morocco, Sofyan Amrabat has garnered interest from several top European clubs.
Among them, Manchester United has been an admirer for some time, given their coach Erik ten Hag’s previous association with the midfielder.
Despite Fiorentina rejecting offers in January, it seems the Italian club is now considering a different approach in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has shown no interest in extending his contract beyond 2025, fueling speculations about his potential move.
Recent reports suggest that Manchester United has agreed on a fee of around £30m to secure the transfer of Amrabat ahead of the Premier League campaign. Negotiations were expected to run smoothly, but another contender has emerged to challenge United’s pursuit.
According to reputable source L’Equipe, Al-Ahli is making a serious attempt to lure Amrabat to the Saudi Pro League.
The team, recently promoted to the top flight, is one of four clubs controlled by the financially powerful Public Investment Fund (PIF), enabling them to make high-profile signings.
Already boasting the likes of Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Roberto Firmino in their squad, Al-Ahli is now eyeing more defensive-minded players, with Amrabat topping their wishlist.
The club, under the management of Matthias Jaissle, is reportedly seeking ‘several’ more fresh faces to bolster their ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign, where they’ll compete against Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal.
With the financial capability to match United’s offer and personal terms, Al-Ahli is a formidable competitor in the race for Amrabat’s signature. The midfielder now faces a crucial decision about his future, with Liverpool and Barcelona seemingly out of the running.
It remains to be seen whether Sofyan Amrabat will choose to embrace a new challenge at Old Trafford or opt for a move to the promising Saudi Pro League with Al-Ahli.
