In this summer’s transfer window, Galatasaray has emerged as the leading contender to secure the signature of Manchester United midfielder Fred.
The 30-year-old Brazilian enjoyed a regular role for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, making 56 appearances across all competitions and contributing with six goals and six assists.
Despite his notable performances, Fred started only 12 times in the Premier League last season. With Mason Mount’s recent arrival at Old Trafford, the Brazilian now finds himself further down the pecking order.
The upcoming season is expected to see Kobbie Mainoo heavily involved in the first team, making it even more challenging for Fred to secure regular starts if he remains with Manchester United.
Fred’s absence from Man United’s pre-season tour in the United States hinted at his potential departure.
Although the official statement from the club cited personal reasons for his non-participation, recent reports suggest that the Brazilian midfielder is no longer traveling with the team due to his imminent exit.
According to prominent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray considers Fred a priority target this summer. While the Turkish giants already had an initial bid rejected, they are expected to return with an improved offer.
However, Galatasaray faces competition for Fred’s signature as Fulham and various Saudi Arabian clubs have also shown interest in securing his services during the current transfer window.
Fred joined Manchester United from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, amassing 213 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals, and providing 19 assists across all competitions.
The Red Devils have already bolstered their midfield by acquiring Mason Mount from Chelsea, and further reinforcements are anticipated, including Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. However, any potential move for Amrabat is likely to be finalized only after Fred’s departure is confirmed.
In addition to Fred, there are rumors surrounding the possible departure of Scott McTominay, with West Ham United reportedly interested in bringing him to their ranks before the transfer window closes.
Furthermore, Donny van de Beek appears eager for regular playing time and may seek opportunities elsewhere in the coming weeks.
