Inter Milan Reject Manchester United’s Bid for Andre Onana

According to reports, Inter Milan has turned down Manchester United’s initial offer to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Red Devils are currently in the market for a new number one goalkeeper after David de Gea’s contract expired on June 30. Despite ongoing discussions for a potential new deal, it seems unlikely that the 32-year-old Spanish shot-stopper will agree to a significantly reduced salary from his previous £375,000-a-week.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly eager to bring in a goalkeeper who is comfortable playing with the ball at his feet, and Andre Onana, the Cameroonian international, is believed to be high on his list of targets for the summer transfer window.

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed over the weekend that Manchester United has expressed interest in signing the 27-year-old, who achieved an impressive record of 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances for the Italian club last season.

Recent reports suggest that the Red Devils have submitted an official proposal to secure Onana’s services and are ready to push forward with negotiations to acquire the former Ajax goalkeeper.

However, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, through GetFootballNewsItaly, claims that Inter has rejected United’s initial offer of €40m (£34.3m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses. The Nerazzurri value Onana closer to €60m (£51.4m) and would entertain offers starting at €50m (£42.9m) plus €10m (£8.6m) in additional payments.

It is mentioned in the report that negotiations will continue between both clubs. However, Inter is eager to conclude their transfer business before July 20, as they have a pre-season tour scheduled in Japan. Inter’s current valuation of Onana exceeds what Manchester United can afford, as the club aims to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly been provided with a £100m transfer budget for the summer, which may increase if certain first-team players are sold. There have been links suggesting that Fred, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, and Dean Henderson, one of the two recognized first-team goalkeepers alongside Tom Heaton, could potentially be sold permanently this summer.

It is worth noting that Manchester United is close to utilizing over half of their summer transfer budget on Mason Mount, the Chelsea midfielder. Mount has reportedly passed his medical examination and is on the verge of completing his £60m move to Old Trafford.
