Barcelona will reportedly not be sacking head coach Xavi in the foreseeable future, despite recent struggles in both La Liga and the Champions League.
The 43-year-old’s managerial stint has been considered a success, especially after the Catalan giants clinched the La Liga title in the 2022-23 season.
Despite ongoing financial issues which will continue into 2024-25, Barcelona have managed to secure 27 points from 12 matches in the current La Liga campaign, sitting in third position, four points adrift of leaders Girona.
However, there have been concerns over the team’s performance, with the last three successes in Spain’s top flight being courtesy of late strikes and two defeats in their last three fixtures in all competitions.
Yet, despite the recent struggles and suggestions of Xavi’s future being in doubt, club officials have made it clear that they have no plans to remove the legendary midfielder from his position in the dugout.
Sources speaking to ESPN reiterated that Xavi is part of a long-term project and would not be sacked based on short-term form.
In the 2023-24 season, Barcelona has posted 11 wins, three draws, and two defeats from their 16 matches in all competitions, with Xavi introducing a number of youngsters into the fold.
The report adds that there is a ‘united’ mood behind the scenes as they bid to remain on the coattails of Girona and Real Madrid, who are just two points ahead of them in the La Liga table.
Since his arrival at Barcelona almost two years ago, Xavi has recorded 66 wins and 21 defeats from his 106 games.
Barcelona can look forward to the upcoming November international break with optimism as they are set to host 14th-placed Alaves on Sunday, providing an opportunity for the team to regain momentum and secure a much-needed victory.
