A report indicates that one of the three women accusing Manchester United winger Antony of domestic assault has withdrawn her complaint.
The former Ajax player is presently on a leave of absence in light of multiple allegations, all of which he has strongly refuted.
The initial accusation came from Gabriela Cavallin, a former girlfriend, who stated that Antony assaulted her on various occasions between June 2022 and May 2023.
Antony, away with the Brazil national team when the allegations surfaced, was dropped from the Selecao following Cavallin’s accusations.
These included a purported headbutt incident in a Manchester hotel in January.
Cavallin required hospital treatment due to the alleged assault. Antony was also accused of dislodging one of her breast implants by punching her in the chest, necessitating surgical intervention.
Shortly after, two other women, including law student Rayssa de Freitas, came forward with claims against Antony.
De Freitas alleged to have been injured by Antony in a car assault incident in Sao Paulo in May 2022, three months before Manchester United acquired Antony from Ajax for £85m.
However, a recent report from The Telegraph reveals that De Freitas has retracted her allegation against Antony, and the police report, unbeknownst to Man United, has also been fully retracted.
In the wake of the allegations, Manchester United has faced accusations of inadequate background checks on players.
The club maintains they performed “due diligence” and believe only a few had access to the police report.
The ongoing investigations involve the claims by Cavallin and banker Ingrid Lana, who stated Antony pushed her against a wall at his Manchester home in October.
Antony vehemently denies all allegations and remains on indefinite paid leave from Manchester United while contesting them.
Since his move to Old Trafford, Antony, who left Sao Paulo for Ajax in 2020, has contributed eight goals and three assists in 48 games for Manchester United.
Antony’s absence aligns with Jadon Sancho’s exclusion from the first team. Sancho was sidelined by Erik ten Hag after publicly challenging the manager’s remarks about his training effort.
Additionally, Mason Greenwood was loaned to Getafe after internal investigations into allegations against the 21-year-old, though the case was eventually dropped.
