Arsenal is currently the top choice to secure a summer transfer agreement for Sporting Lisbon’s in-form striker Viktor Gyokeres, despite interest from other clubs.
Insiders have revealed to SportsWeez that Arsenal is prioritizing a new striker this summer, with Gyokeres becoming a prominent target alongside players like Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins.
The Gunners are still deliberating on their primary striker target, but they are actively gathering information on the potential deal cost. It is likely to be below his €100 million release clause but still a substantial expense.
As a result, Arsenal appears better positioned to sign Gyokeres compared to other contenders such as Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. These clubs admire the player but are unlikely to meet Sporting’s demands.
Although Chelsea has shown interest in the Swedish international, recent indications suggest they are focusing on Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko for that position.
Sporting seems resigned to Gyokeres departing this summer and is scouting replacements for the 25-year-old.
Despite his previous spell at Coventry City in the Championship, Gyokeres has excelled recently, establishing himself as one of Europe’s top forwards.
With 36 goals in 39 games this season, including a recent hat-trick, he could serve as a significant upgrade for Arsenal’s attacking options.
In addition to pursuing Gyokeres, Arsenal is keen on bolstering their midfield, with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi emerging as their preferred choice for that role.
