Saudi Arabian clubs are showing keen interest in acquiring the services of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes, according to reports.
During the summer transfer window, clubs from the Saudi Pro League have been actively pursuing renowned players from Europe. This has seen the likes of Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Karim Benzema, and Sadio Mane make moves to the Middle East.
The latest addition to this influx is anticipated to be Neymar, with the Brazilian superstar on the verge of finalizing a move to Al-Hilal.
With the Saudi Arabian transfer window remaining open until September 20, there is ample time for further high-profile signings in the country’s domestic league.
As reported by the Mirror, teams in the Saudi Pro League have identified Arsenal center-back Gabriel as a prospective target for a lucrative transfer.
Although Arsenal is aware of the interest, no official bid has been submitted for the Brazilian defender.
The report suggests that it is currently uncertain whether Arsenal would entertain offers for Gabriel. Furthermore, the club faces no immediate pressure to sell the player as he remains under contract until June 2027.
The possibility of Gabriel’s departure may also depend on the injury status of summer signing Jurrien Timber. Timber sustained a knee injury during his debut against Nottingham Forest and is currently undergoing assessment.
Since his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £27 million, Gabriel has made 120 competitive appearances for Arsenal.
Last season, the 25-year-old formed a formidable central defensive partnership with William Saliba, providing stability and contributing to the team’s title aspirations.
In a surprising move, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta chose not to include Gabriel in the lineup for their opening-day victory against Forest on Sunday. As they prepare for their upcoming match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday, Gabriel will be hoping to secure a starting position.
