La Liga action continues this weekend as Celta Vigo and Villarreal clash in Spain’s top flight.
Match Preview
Celta Vigo is still battling relegation but enters this game in better form, with a four-point lead over Cadiz in 18th place.
However, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Deportivo Alaves in their last away game.
Their recent 4-1 win against Las Palmas at home was crucial, with 21 shots, 13 on target, despite having only 31% possession. Iago Aspas scored twice, while Williot Swedberg and Anastasios Douvikas also found the net.
Despite these improvements, Celta Vigo may continue to fight relegation until the final games of the season.
They secured a crucial 2-1 away win against Sevilla in the past six weeks, with goals from Carles Perez and Jorgen Strand Larsen.
However, Celta Vigo has only won seven out of 33 La Liga games and lost 16 times, worse than Cadiz’s record in the bottom three.
Ironically, they have the worst defensive record among teams outside the relegation zone, with 54 goals conceded, just after Villarreal.
Villarreal’s season has been inconsistent, but they now sit ninth after being outside the top half for much of the season.
They are still vying for a European spot, trailing sixth-placed Real Sociedad by six points with five games remaining, following a two-game winning streak.
They narrowly defeated Almeria 2-1 and comfortably beat Rayo Vallecano 3-0. They also drew 1-1 with Athletic Club in early April.
Prediction & Analysis:
In what promises to be an enthralling encounter, Villarreal enters the match as favorites, backed by their recent form and aspirations for European qualification.
Expect a high-scoring affair with Villarreal emerging victorious and surpassing the 2.5 goals mark, further solidifying their position in the race for Europe.
