Former Manchester City playmaker David Silva has expressed his views on the possible challengers for the 2023-24 Premier League title, and he believes that only Arsenal has the potential to give the reigning champions a tough time.
Despite dominating the league last season, Arsenal finished second to Manchester City, who won their third successive title.
Silva’s prediction sets the tone for an exciting season with fierce competition between the teams.
Manchester United finished third last season, while Liverpool and Chelsea failed to qualify for the top four. This season, the teams have strengthened their squads with new signings hoping to challenge the Citizens for the title.
However, Man City has already made a perfect start to the campaign, winning all of their first four matches. Arsenal and Liverpool are hot on their heels, each with ten points from their first four games.
Silva believes that Arsenal, in particular, could pose a threat to Man City’s title bid. The Gunners made a statement signing of midfielder Declan Rice for £105m, along with Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya.
The former Man City star praised his old club’s treble-winning success and said,
“They deserve it. The club deserves it, the supporters deserve to win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup – the treble. It was an amazing achievement.”
Other challengers like Manchester United and Chelsea have suffered early setbacks this season, losing two games already.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are trying to challenge for European places. However, Silva feels that they may not have what it takes to compete at the top level with Man City and Arsenal.
