Bournemouth seems to have their eyes set on acquiring the services of Karl Darlow, the talented goalkeeper currently under contract with Newcastle United. While Darlow has been with the Magpies since 2014, he has mostly played second fiddle to various first-choice goalkeepers and has also spent time on loan at other clubs. As a result, he has made only 100 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle.
In the latter part of the previous season, Darlow had a successful stint with Hull City in the Championship, where he made 12 starts, impressing many with his skills between the sticks. Now, the Daily Mail reports that Bournemouth is eager to strike a deal to bring this experienced goalkeeper to their squad, bolstering their options in the goalkeeping department.
Bournemouth already has Neto, Mark Travers, and Darren Randolph on their roster, but they might be willing to let one of the latter two go if an agreement can be reached with Darlow.
Given Darlow’s current situation at Newcastle, where he stands as the fourth choice, and Newcastle’s need to cut costs to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, manager Eddie Howe is reportedly open to the idea of letting Darlow leave, despite his long-standing presence at the club.
On a different note, Nottingham Forest is rumored to be interested in Ian Maatsen, a versatile left-sided player associated with Chelsea. Maatsen recently showcased his talent with an impressive brace in a 5-0 win for Chelsea over Wrexham.
However, with just a year left on his contract and uncertainty regarding his position in Chelsea’s first-team plans under Mauricio Pochettino, the Dutch Under-21 international might be considering his options.
Nottingham Forest is willing to spend around £15 million to secure Maatsen’s signature, offering him the chance to compete with Omar Richards on the left flank. West Ham United and Burnley are also believed to be monitoring the situation, making it an interesting race for the talented youngster’s services.
Meanwhile, in the Championship, Leicester City may consider parting ways with midfielder Boubakary Soumare. The Frenchman joined Leicester from Lille two years ago with high expectations, but he has struggled to live up to the £17 million price tag. Although Leicester decided against selling him last summer, their relegation to the Championship could change their stance.
Both Napoli and Torino from Serie A are reportedly interested in discussing a deal with Leicester for Soumare.
While the potential transfer fee remains undisclosed, Leicester would hope to recoup a significant portion of what they invested in him back in 2021. Clubs from Ligue 1 might also express interest in the 24-year-old midfielder, given his prior success with Lille and experience at the France Under-21 level.
