Both Getafe and Granada will aim to recover from consecutive defeats when they meet at the Coliseum on Monday evening.
Match preview
After their elimination from the Copa del Rey with a 3-1 home loss to Sevilla in the last 16, Getafe has suffered back-to-back home defeats for the first time this season.
Los Azulones also stumbled against Rayo Vallecano earlier this month, but the Coliseum had previously been a difficult place for away teams to visit: they have only lost once at home in La Liga and averaged two points per game.
Indeed, the capital club had not been defeated in any of their previous 11 home games, securing seven league wins in the process. Therefore, head coach Pepe Bordalas will hope to get his team back on track this week.
In their last match, Getafe fell short after a spirited comeback away to Osasuna. Second-half goals from Borja Mayoral and Nemanja Maksimovic brought them level before conceding a third goal 10 minutes from full time, with Jesus Areso sealing the victory for Osasuna.
As a result, Getafe’s position in the top half of La Liga is at risk, and their hopes of returning to UEFA competition are fading.
However, they remain undefeated in four league meetings with Granada ahead of Monday’s game, having lost five of the previous six matches.
Mayoral scored in the reverse fixture in November, where Gonzalo Villar equalized for Granada to earn a draw.
After losing to Atletico Madrid in their last game, Los Nazaries have only accumulated 10 points throughout the season, with only one point earned on the road. Consequently, they sit in 19th place, five points away from 17th-placed Sevilla.
Continuing a trend from before his tenure, Alexander Medina has suffered defeats in each of his first three away matches as Granada coach, extending the team’s winless streak to 11 La Liga away games, with 10 losses during that period.
Although Granada secured promotion to Spain’s top flight last year by topping the Segunda Division, their attempts to solidify their status have faltered.
Medina recently added Club Brugge full-back Faitout Maouassa to the squad on loan, but with an average of two goals conceded per game, Granada may require additional defensive reinforcements to avoid relegation.

Team News
Getafe will be without the suspended duo of Luis Milla and Jose Angel Carmona on Monday. Damian Suarez will serve the second game of his two-match ban.
While Jaime Mata and Juanmi Latasa return from suspension, Pepe Bordalas still has long-term injury absentee Mauro Arambarri and Ilaix Moriba missing.
Moriba, who recently arrived on loan from RB Leipzig, is currently participating in the Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea.
Leading the attack, Borja Mayoral has scored in his last two La Liga games against Granada. The former Roma striker may be partnered with either Juanmi or Enes Unal.
Meanwhile, Granada welcomes back Kamil Piatkowski after he missed their loss to Atletico Madrid. However, several players will be unavailable for Alexander Medina.
Jesus Vallejo and Raul Fernandez are sidelined due to injury, while Martin Hongla and Lucas Boye are both suspended.
To cover Boye’s absence, Myrto Uzuni could take a more central role. Alternatively, Jose Callejon or Matias Arezo may be promoted from the bench.
Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria;
Iglesias, Alderete, Alvarez, Rico;
Mata, Djene, Maksimovic, Greenwood;
Unal, Mayoral
Granada possible starting lineup:
Batalla;
Ricard, Mendez, Miquel, Neva;
Gumbau, Ruiz, Villar;
Zaragoza, Uzuni, Callejon
Prediction: Getafe 2-0 Granada
The difference between Getafe’s strong home record and Granada’s struggles on the road is quite significant. The visitors have difficulty making an impact away from Andalucia, so Getafe should comfortably secure a victory at the Coliseum.
