Granada vs. Villarreal La Liga

Granada vs. Villarreal – Preview, Prediction, Team news, Lineups

In this La Liga showdown, Villarreal is looking to secure a win after a dry spell since mid-September. They will visit Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes on Monday to face Granada.

Match Preview

The visitors are currently in 14th place, having gathered only nine points in their first ten matches this season.

Meanwhile, Granada is positioned 19th, with just six points from their initial ten games.

Granada made a comeback to La Liga by clinching the 2022-23 Segunda Division title. They aim to establish their presence in the top tier after a season in the second division.

However, Paco Lopez’s squad has struggled to gain momentum this season, managing just one win, three draws, and six defeats to collect six points, leaving them in the 19th spot in the standings.

While Granada has been able to find the back of the net with 15 goals in La Liga this season, they have conceded 25, the second-worst record after Almeria (29).

The Andalusian team managed a 3-2 victory against Mallorca in August but has secured only three points in the seven games that followed, including a recent 2-0 loss to Osasuna.

Additionally, Granada has not celebrated a victory over Villarreal in Spain’s top flight since March 2014, with the Yellow Submarine recording a 4-1 win in their last encounter in February 2022.

Villarreal, on the other hand, has underperformed this season, acquiring only nine points from their first ten league matches, placing them in 14th position.

They have won just two matches in La Liga this season, with their last win in September against Almeria.

Pacheta’s squad experienced a 2-1 home defeat to Las Palmas before the international break and a 1-1 draw with Alaves on their home turf in the previous weekend.

In the Europa League, Villarreal was set to face Maccabi Haifa, but due to the ongoing conflict in Israel, the match was postponed and will now be played behind closed doors in Cyprus.

El Submarino Amarillo has some catching up to do in their Europa League section, standing third in Group F with three points from two matches, while the top two spots are held by Rennes and Panathinaikos.

Team News

Granada will be without Jesus Vallejo, Miguel Angel Rubio, and Raul Fernandez on Monday due to fitness issues.

Lucas Boye and Gerard Gumbau are both suspended, with Boye’s absence likely to open the door for Myrto Uzuni to start in the final third.

For Villarreal, Yeremy Pino, Denis Suarez, and Francis Coquelin are expected to miss out due to injuries, while Dani Parejo and Alfonso Pedraza are major doubts.

Manu Trigueros is expected to replace Parejo, and Alberto Moreno is set to replace Pedraza as the left-sided wing-back.

Gerard Moreno, who scored against Alaves, is expected to continue in the final third, alongside Alexander Sorloth.

Santi Comesana is likely to retain his spot in central midfield.

Possible Starting Lineups

Sanchez, Rubio, Miquel, Neva;

Petrovic, Villar;

Melendo, Zaragoza, A Fernandez;

Mandi, Albiol, Cuenca;

Femenia, Capoue, Trigueros, Comesana, A Moreno;

G Moreno, Sorloth

Villarreal’s recent struggles make it challenging to back them at the moment. Granada held Barcelona to a draw before the international break and has lost only one of their last four home matches.

  • Therefore, it’s reasonable to expect a 2-2 draw in Monday’s fixture.
