Lecce vs. Parma Coppa Italia – Preview, Prediction, Team news, Lineups

After a five-game winless streak, Lecce will face Serie B leaders Parma in the Coppa Italia at Stadio Via del Mare on Wednesday.

Both teams are aiming for a place in the last 16, where they would meet Fiorentina. This cup game comes in contrasting form of the two clubs.

Match Preview

Lecce started the 2023-24 season strongly with a win over Lazio in Serie A after progressing from the first round of the Coppa Italia.

However, since then they have only managed two more wins since late August. They picked up just one point from two league fixtures last week, followed by a 1-0 defeat at home to Torino.

The Salentini had won their first three home matches, but have since taken only one point from their last three home matches.

Lecce’s coach, Roberto D’Aversa, will be eager to end this trend by winning against lower-tier opposition in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.

D’Aversa aims to start a new month with improved results, but Roma and Milan are the Giallorossi’s next two opponents in Serie A, which makes a Coppa Italia victory all the more essential.

Lecce is targeting the last 16 after edging past Como in the previous round.

Parma, who were recently relegated from the top flight in 2021, came up short in the promotion playoffs last term but now leads Serie B with a five-point lead.

Romanian winger Dennis Man scored three times across victories over Como and Ascoli in their two recent wins since the international break.

Possible starting lineups

Lecce

  • Falcone;
  • Venuti, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Dorgu;
  • Ramadani, Kaba, Oudin;
  • Strefezza, Piccoli, Sansone

Parma

  • Chichizola;
  • Del Prato, Osorio, Circati, Ansaldi;
  • Bernabe, Estevez; Man, Sohm, Benedyczak;
  • Colak

Team News:

Lecce is set to make several changes to their starting XI on Wednesday evening, with some key players offered a well-earned rest.

First-choice striker Nikola Krstovic might be replaced by Atalanta BC loanee Roberto Piccoli.

Parma will hope Brazilian midfielder Hernani can recover from a fever that ruled him out of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Ascoli.

Prediction

While Lecce has struggled for goals lately, a change of personnel could help them recover their poise in the final third.

Under Fabio Pecchia, Parma rarely concedes more than once, but Lecce has some skilful forwards that can open up the Gialloblu’s backline.

  • We predict that Lecce will win 2-1 against Parma.
