Liverpool is closely monitoring Chelsea’s pursuit of Moises Caicedo as they contemplate making a move for the Ecuadorian midfielder, according to reliable sources. The Reds commenced this summer with the intention of rebuilding their midfield, already splurging a substantial £95m on the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
Initially, Liverpool had plans to secure the services of a third midfielder, expressing admiration for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia at Anfield. However, unforeseen circumstances may prompt the Reds to seek further reinforcements, as both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson entertain the possibility of relocating to Saudi Arabia.
Al Ettifaq, managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, are actively pursuing a deal to secure Henderson’s signature. Meanwhile, Al Ittihad, the reigning Saudi champions under the guidance of former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, have shown significant interest in Fabinho. Furthermore, there is mounting interest in acquiring Thiago Alcantara from the Middle East.
In the event that any of the aforementioned trio depart, Liverpool may find themselves compelled to acquire a new midfielder. Given the potential windfall from unexpected player sales, the Reds are contemplating a move for Caicedo.
Chelsea have earmarked Caicedo as their primary target in the transfer market, engaging in protracted negotiations with Brighton for the 21-year-old. The Seagulls have set a valuation of £100m on the player, but the Blues are endeavoring to secure a discount. As of yet, Chelsea has not submitted a formal offer, opting instead for an informal agreement with Brighton to ensure their initial bid is accepted.
Nevertheless, Liverpool has emerged as a late contender for Caicedo’s signature. Their decision to pursue the Ecuadorian prodigy hinges on the choices made by Fabinho and Henderson. Both players have yet to determine their desire to ply their trade in the Saudi Pro League. While manager Jurgen Klopp is adamant about retaining the services of Fabinho and Henderson, he is willing to entertain offers should either player express a desire to depart.
