Manchester United haven’t made an official bid for Sofyan Amrabat, despite the widespread speculation surrounding the Fiorentina midfielder.
The 20-time English champions recently announced the signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta BC, adding to their summer acquisitions of Mason Mount and Andre Onana.
However, it appears that head coach Erik ten Hag is still keen on bolstering his squad with a defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes.
The Premier League outfit has been heavily linked with Amrabat, but La Repubblica reports that Fiorentina has yet to receive an official offer for the Moroccan international. With his contract set to expire next June, the Italian side is resigned to losing the midfielder and has set a valuation of €30m (£26m).
Amrabat’s impressive performances for Morocco in the 2022 World Cup have attracted interest from various clubs.
Barcelona was previously linked with the midfielder, and both Liverpool and Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in him. Bayern Munich is also monitoring the situation, with their head coach Thomas Tuchel expressing a desire to strengthen the central midfield position.
Despite not featuring in Fiorentina’s recent friendlies against Newcastle United and Nice, Amrabat has allegedly reached an agreement with Manchester United over personal terms.
The player has made it clear that his preference is a move to Old Trafford this summer. However, Manchester United may need to offload at least one midfielder before submitting an official bid for Amrabat.
The potential departures of Fred, Donny van de Beek, and Scott McTominay from Old Trafford have been heavily rumored. West Ham United is reportedly interested in McTominay; however, they are not willing to meet Manchester United’s £40m valuation.
Meanwhile, Manchester United continues their preparation for the upcoming season. They recently secured a 3-1 victory over Lens in their penultimate pre-season friendly and are now in Dublin for Sunday’s match against Athletic Bilbao.
If the transfer materializes, Amrabat will leave Fiorentina after making 107 appearances for the Italian side. He featured in 49 matches during the 2022-23 campaign.
