According to reports, Manchester United’s bid of €35m (£30m) for Atalanta BC forward Rasmus Hojlund has been rejected. The 20-year-old had an impressive season with his Italian club, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Hojlund’s outstanding performances have generated a lot of speculation about his future, with Manchester United believed to be leading the race for the Danish international. However, Atalanta swiftly turned down United’s offer of €35m, as they are reportedly holding out for a minimum of €45m (£38.6m) for the talented forward. Interestingly, this valuation represents a significant drop from the rumored price tag of €100m (£86m) placed on Hojlund just last month.
The young striker, who joined Atalanta from Sturm Graz last summer, still has four years remaining on his contract with the Italian club. While Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane was initially seen as United’s top target, a move within the Premier League seems unlikely. In addition, potential moves for Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt are deemed too costly this summer.
Although Chelsea has also been linked with Hojlund, Manchester United are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature. The Danish forward, who began his professional career at Copenhagen before moving to Sturm Graz, showcased his abilities by scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 32 Serie A appearances last season.
In recent interviews, Hojlund hinted at his interest in a potential move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window. As for Manchester United, they are on the verge of completing their first signing of the season with the imminent arrival of Mason Mount in a £60m deal from Chelsea. Additionally, the Red Devils are considering acquiring a new goalkeeper, as David de Gea’s contract with the club has expired.
