Since his arrival in 2020, Victor Osimhen has transformed into a footballing sensation at Napoli, leaving an indelible mark on the Italian giants.
The Nigerian forward’s impressive tally of 59 goals and 14 assists in just 101 appearances across all competitions, along with his pivotal role in guiding Napoli to their first Serie A title in over 30 years, have made him an invaluable asset to the team.
Despite his remarkable success, uncertainty has loomed over Osimhen’s future due to the nearing expiry of his contract in 2025.
The 24-year-old has openly expressed his desire to play in the Premier League, attracting interest from clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to bolster their attacking options.
However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been resolute in his stance, asserting that only PSG possesses the financial capability to tempt them into selling Osimhen. With the French giants considering proposals for Kylian Mbappe, there remains a possibility of a significant bid being made for a new high-profile striker.
According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Napoli and Osimhen have engaged in discussions regarding a new contract.
The next step is to finalize the terms before an official announcement is made. While details about the contract’s length are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to extend until at least 2027, showcasing Napoli’s commitment to retaining their star forward.
The report also suggests the inclusion of a release clause worth €150 million (£128.49 million) in Osimhen’s contract, although Napoli is keen on securing a higher buy-out option to safeguard their interests.
Despite a hefty fee generated through the sale of Kim Min-jae to Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga champions met his €50 million release clause, Napoli remains eager to strengthen their position further by securing Osimhen’s long-term commitment.
