Manchester United’s head coach, Erik ten Hag, expressed his satisfaction with the club’s choice of Rasmus Hojlund as their primary centre-forward target for the upcoming season.
After considering various options, including high-profile strikers like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, Manchester United decided to focus on bringing in Hojlund from Atalanta BC.
Regarding the decision not to pursue a move for Harry Kane, who is now on the verge of joining Bayern Munich, Ten Hag stated, “We are professional, the processes we do are really careful. We consider a lot of things but finally we make decisions, we don’t take decisions overnight, there is a strategy in every decision behind and we are happy with the squad we have behind us now.”
Ten Hag praised Kane as a top-class striker with excellent goal-scoring abilities, acknowledging that his absence will be felt in the Premier League.
However, Manchester United firmly believes that they have made the right choice in selecting Hojlund as their striker. The Danish forward possesses all the attributes and skills desired in a centre-forward.
Due to a minor back problem, Hojlund will not be available for Manchester United at the start of the 2023-24 season.
However, there are hopes that he may return to action before the end of the month. The 20-year-old impressed while playing for Atalanta last season, scoring 10 goals in 34 appearances.
Manchester United’s campaign opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers will be a crucial test for the team.
Ten Hag expressed his confidence in the progress the team has made during pre-season, highlighting their improved fitness levels and high-performance standards. However, he also emphasized that friendly matches cannot be compared to competitive fixtures.
Despite the ongoing speculation surrounding Harry Maguire’s future, the defender will be available for selection in Manchester United’s campaign opener, according to Ten Hag.
