TOTTENHAM are reportedly at the forefront of the race to secure the signature of Bayer Leverkusen’s defensive sensation, Edmond Tapsoba.
According to sports expert Patrick Berger, Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou, is gearing up to make a substantial £39 million bid for the 6ft 4in tall center-back.
Despite rival interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, Tottenham’s bold offer might dissuade the London clubs from pursuing the 24-year-old Burkina Faso international.
However, Bayer Leverkusen is expected to demand a fee in the region of £45 million, given Tapsoba’s impressive track record of over 100 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
Having joined Leverkusen from Vitória de Guimarães in 2020, Tapsoba has received accolades for his exceptional defensive prowess, notably flourishing under the guidance of Xabi Alonso. This has caught the attention of top clubs across Europe, making him a sought-after talent.
Postecoglou’s challenge, though, lies in convincing Tapsoba to make the switch to White Hart Lane. While Tottenham has made notable signings like Manor Solomon, James Maddison, and Guglielmo Vicario this summer, they are yet to secure a new center-back.
A potential deal with Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven is close to fruition, but Tottenham remains eager to complete a move for Tapsoba.
Furthermore, concerns loom at the other end of the pitch with the impending departure of star striker Harry Kane. Bayern Munich seems to be inching closer to securing Kane’s services, with a reported bid of £82 million.
However, one journalist has issued a fervent plea to the Bundesliga champions, urging them not to sign the 30-year-old England captain and referring to him as a “30-year-old bone” in an open letter published in a newspaper.
