Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly looking to part ways with midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, as Turkish club Galatasaray shows interest in acquiring the 26-year-old player.
Ndombele joined Tottenham from Lyon in 2019 for a then-club record fee of £55 million, but his performances failed to live up to the price tag.
The French midfielder spent the last two seasons on loan at his former clubs, Lyon and Napoli, where he helped Napoli secure the Serie A title last season. However, his return to Tottenham does not seem to be on the cards, with Galatasaray emerging as a potential destination.
According to The Mirror, Galatasaray has made an offer of £11 million for Ndombele, which is significantly lower than the £55 million that Spurs paid for him four years ago. This move could result in a massive financial loss for Tottenham.
Ndombele showed promise under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, but his form declined over time, leading to his fall out of favor with the club. Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy, criticized the club’s spending on Ndombele earlier this year.
The arrival of new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has further diminished Ndombele’s prospects at the club. Postecoglou is reportedly keen on trimming the squad and plans to offload at least ten players during the summer transfer window, with Ndombele being a likely candidate for departure.
James Maddison, Tottenham’s recent signing, has already filled the void that Ndombele’s potential departure would create, making the French international surplus to requirements.
Despite making 63 appearances during his four-year tenure at Tottenham, Ndombele’s goal tally stands at just six, which contributed to the growing belief that he hasn’t lived up to expectations.
