Sevilla appears to be strategizing a move to bring David de Gea, the Spanish goalkeeper, back to his homeland. The 32-year-old is now a free agent, having allowed his contract with Manchester United to expire without reaching a renewal agreement with his former club.
A return to La Liga has been widely speculated for the former Atletico Madrid man, but clubs from Saudi Arabia could also tempt him with a lucrative offer. Nonetheless, Fichajes reports that Sevilla is actively considering making a move for De Gea if their current number one goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, departs during the current transfer window.
Paris Saint-Germain is said to be weighing up an approach for Bounou, and in such a scenario, De Gea is reportedly willing to accept a significant pay cut to make a comeback to the Spanish top flight.
De Gea’s tenure at Manchester United was marked by impressive performances, boasting 190 clean sheets in 545 matches. However, the 2022-23 campaign saw him facing criticism for some crucial mistakes.
Meanwhile, the transfer market is abuzz with potential moves, including players heading from England to Spain and vice versa. One notable deal in the making involves Aston Villa, who are reportedly leading the race to sign Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.
The Portugal international had a lackluster loan spell at Chelsea last season, scoring only four times in 20 appearances and struggling for regular playing time. As a result, Atletico seems inclined to part ways with the young forward, with Aston Villa keenly monitoring the situation.
Felix had expressed interest in joining Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems the French champions have turned down the opportunity. Additionally, Manchester United has also been linked with the 23-year-old, who made a big-money move from Benfica to Atletico in 2019.
Another forward facing a potential move is Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta. The striker, who made his loan deal permanent in January 2022, has failed to impress with only 10 goals in 67 appearances and just two Premier League goals last season.
German giants RB Leipzig, led by coach Marco Rose, are reportedly considering a £12 million offer for Mateta, who could find a new home back in the Bundesliga. However, Italian side Genoa has also shown interest and may be looking to negotiate a loan deal with an option to buy.
Finally, Nottingham Forest’s midfielder Jonjo Shelvey appears to be on the verge of an exit after being left out of the pre-season training camp squad. The 31-year-old had moved to Forest from Newcastle United to aid in their battle against relegation but struggled to make a significant impact.
Due to attitude concerns, Shelvey was sidelined and did not feature in the team’s last seven league games. Forest is now seeking to offload him, and his omission from the training camp suggests that he may not be in the club’s plans for the upcoming season.
As of now, it remains uncertain if there is any concrete interest in Shelvey, and his market value may not command a premium, considering he has only two years left on his contract with Nottingham Forest. Shelvey has had an illustrious career, representing various clubs such as Charlton Athletic, Liverpool, Blackpool, and Swansea, and has made appearances for the England national team.
