According to reports, West Ham United is reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay from Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The recent confirmation of Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal means that West Ham’s head coach, David Moyes, should have a significant budget to strengthen his squad in the current market.
In recent weeks, there has been much speculation surrounding the futures of Maguire and McTominay, as it appears that Red Devils’ head coach Erik ten Hag does not see them as part of his future plans.
According to The Independent, West Ham’s interest in McTominay has intensified following Rice’s departure, with the midfielder being a top target for the Hammers.
Additionally, Moyes’s team is also keen on Maguire, and there is a possibility of a loan move for the English defender during the current transfer window.
Maguire’s wages at Manchester United have increased this summer, and he still has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, with the option for another year.
The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in terms of starting roles in the Red Devils’ defense, having only featured in the Premier League starting lineup eight times in the 2022-23 season.
Although Man United would prefer a permanent transfer for Maguire, a loan move is more likely due to his high salary demands.
Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof are all currently ahead of Maguire in the center-back position, while Luke Shaw was also chosen over him in that area last season.
Similar uncertainty surrounds McTominay’s future, with several Premier League clubs expressing interest in signing the Scottish international.
During the January transfer window, Newcastle United was strongly linked with McTominay and is still believed to be in the race to secure his signature.
Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion have also shown interest in the 26-year-old midfielder, who started only 10 Premier League matches in the 2022-23 campaign.
While West Ham’s Moyes does not consider McTominay as a direct replacement for Rice, he recognizes the potential value the Scot could bring to the team at the London Stadium.
Manchester United is under pressure to offload some first-team players this summer, as they aim to secure deals for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and Atalanta BC forward Rasmus Hojlund.
