Newcastle United is considering Jesper Lindstrom from Eintracht Frankfurt as an alternative to James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai. Initially, Newcastle was leading the race for Maddison but shifted their focus to Sandro Tonali, who recently joined from AC Milan. Maddison ended up signing with Tottenham Hotspur, while Szoboszlai joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig.
According to The Sun, Newcastle is now pursuing the Danish midfielder Lindstrom, who could be a more cost-effective option at £30 million. However, RB Leipzig and AC Milan are also interested in Lindstrom, with the former having already had a £21.5 million offer rejected by Frankfurt.
Last season, Lindstrom had an impressive record of nine goals and four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions for Frankfurt. At just 23 years old, he still has several years left on his contract, which expires in 2026.
In other news, Reading is on the verge of finalizing a deal with free agent Theo Walcott after his release from Southampton. Walcott’s contract with Southampton ended when they were relegated to the Championship. Reading’s new head coach, Ruben Selles, formerly managed Southampton and is now looking to reunite with Walcott at Reading. The deal is expected to be completed soon, as Walcott has been training with Reading in recent weeks.
Leeds United playmaker Brenden Aaronson is reportedly close to joining Union Berlin on a season-long loan. Aaronson, who struggled to make an impact last season, with just one goal and three assists in 36 Premier League matches, is expected to leave Leeds following their relegation. Union Berlin, who finished fourth in the Bundesliga and qualified for the Champions League, will provide Aaronson with an opportunity to play in European competition once again.
Finally, Bournemouth has entered into talks with AZ Alkmaar regarding the potential signing of left-back Milos Kerkez. The 19-year-old Hungarian international had an impressive breakthrough season, contributing five goals and seven assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Bournemouth is leading negotiations for Kerkez, who is valued at £20 million by AZ. Other clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Leeds United, Newcastle United, and Leicester City, have shown interest in the young defender but have not started formal negotiations. Despite admiration from Benfica, they are not willing to meet AZ’s asking price.
